Please! Beverage Co. x Cobie Smulders

Today we were at Please! Beverage Co’s, Mount Pleasant distillery and tasting room. Here, to enjoy my favourite, local, ready to drink canned cocktail, as they celebrate their one year anniversary.

The major drive and pull for this event today was being able to meet with local Vancouver born actress, Cobie Smulders. For those unfamiliar, she is famously known for her acting roles in “How I met your Mother” and Marvel’s Avenger franchise. A month leading up to the anniversary date she was announced as the brand ambassador, to everyone’s delight. I would later learn that her brother is one of the owners of Please, so this was a familiar affair. Her appearance here today brought fans and those curious alike.

We were invited in earlier as media. Gathered at their well lit tasting room, given flair and pops of colour with faux greenery and a floral mural.

We were welcomed in with our choice of one of their canned cocktails. Mango, coconut & pandan; raspberry, juniper & mint; Passionfruit, calamansi & ginger; and grapefruit Paloma. I have said it many times before and it still holds true, this is the easiest drinking canned cocktail on the market. All natural fruit flavours you enjoy, and spirits you can’t taste, but do feel. Each flavour an easy going crowd pleaser.

And as we drank, we snacked on small bites, prepared by the in-house kitchen, courtesy of jam jar, Lebanese cuisine. There was a selection of their hummus and dips with deep-fried pita chips. I could have eaten a whole bowl of these, their chips are some of the crunchiest.

Not on the regular menu, but ideal for today’s grazing gathering were seasoned wings, deep fried prawns, and flatbread pizza in a classic pepperoni and mushroom with white sauce.

Guests were given the run of the space and allowed to mix and mingle in their small groups. All eagerly and patiently waiting for their short time with Cobie. She is as tall as she looks on television, dressed in a smart, maroon jumpsuit with orange pattern and puffed cap sleeves. She was cordial, friendly, and approachable.

She did private interviews for local editorial outlets on the upper mezzanine. Then when done floated her way downstairs to do an informal meet and greet with the crowd. She stopped to acknowledge a newborn baby, give hugs to a friend, and signed one of Please! Beverage’s logo T-shirts.

She eventually found her self towards the front of the shop, backed into a wall to take photos and autograph merchandise. Judging on the items to sign, it appears that the majority is a fan of Robin Scherbatsky, myself included. We all agreed that she found a way to humorously incorporate Vancouver into her “ legen-wait for it dary” role.

This was a short event, but a great way to celebrate and support local between a small business and home grown talent.

I am in awe of all the things Please! Beverage Co. has done and is doing to bring attention to their brand. From participating in this year’s Punch Bowl Festival, to hosting a fried chicken and doughnut Popup, and soon to be presenting a rum cocktail class; which I will be participating in next week. If this is them at one years old, I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
