Today we were back at Ollie & Co.‘s pop up space in Bentall Centre, for their most recent candle making workshop. I have done them all thus far, so can confirm that each experience is different, and that I always look forward to their creativity and dedication to the theme. This time around it was all about cocktail mixing through scents.

The work shop space allows for 12 individuals to gather around a long table, to create their own signature scent. You do this by smelling your way through a curated selection of oils with scents like vineyard, red currant & thyme, and tequila. Once again, having done these workshops before I can confirm that these were mostly new scents I have yet to sniff. I was impressed by the sheer assortment that Ollie & Co. has gathered to have each workshop so unique onto itself.
After smelling all the scents and picking out your favourites, you are taught how to blend them together to make the perfect ratio of top, mid, and bottom notes. They are stirred together then poured into a glass tumbler, along with hot wax to sit and harden. Once the candle has been fully burned you can then reuse said tumbler as its original intended purpose.

Therefore, as you wait for your candle to dry you are tasked with making a coaster. Ollie & Co. prides themselves on their workshop within a workshop concept and that the second one is often challenging. That was the case today, as many of us struggled to weave thin coloured bamboo sticks together and press them in between plastic to create a stylish coaster to set our candle on.
As always, these sessions are laid back and intimate. The goal is to be creative and have fun with the task. This was a lovely way to be mindful and enjoy an afternoon with a friend, with the ability to take and use your creation later.
