Taco Bell: $5 Luxe Value Menu

am a fan of Taco Bell, ever since they once offered Vegas themed wedding packages for serious brides and grooms. On top of a legal marriage, this service had newly weds walking away with a dozen tacos, as a parting wedding gift. This was one of their past promotions and their recent one now is just as iconic.

In celebration of their new and largest value menu launch, Taco Bell Canada was offering customers a chance to try the entire 7 item menu in the comfort of their Taco Bell limo. And lucky us, we were one of the firsts to be able to give this experience a try.

Pick up was across from Canada Place. Their “Prince” purple limo was hard to miss. It also included a team of handlers dressed in the same hue of purple. You are invited in and asked to make yourself comfortable at any of the available cushioned seats, each covered in soft purple blankets and fuzzy matching pillows. During the limo’s run they were inviting groups of up to 8 to take a ride.

The limo is equipped with Crystal decanters filled with Baja Blast. Apparently this is the first time that this flavour is available in Canada. A neon light blue with a tropical citrus flavour. This was further dressed up, served in plastic flutes, with wet wipes nearby, should you need it.

The limo drove us to Taco Bell’s Granville Strip location. Here, a take out bag with our names on it was brought out to us, car side. Made to order, it was literally served on a silver platter. A full bag, of one of each item on this new menu for us to try.

The Luxe Value Menu features 7 brand new items and 3 beloved favourites, each $5 or less.

The Chips & Nacho Supreme Dip would be one I revisit in the future. I loved how thick and almost nutty the chips were. They have a flavour all their own, that is then exemplified by the side of bean dip it is served with. A healthy portion topped with seasoned beef and nacho cheese sauce, then garnished with reduced-fat sour cream, and pico de gallo. The chips were almost too thin to carry the weight of the dip. There was also more dip than chip, and I ended up using it with the wraps below, as added flavour.

I didn’t get much of the avocado in the ranch, and could have used more ranch overall in the Avocado Ranch Chicken Stacker. This was my favourite of the new wrap options with folded and stacked layers of grilled all-white-meat chicken, a melted 3 cheese blend, and fresh lettuce. This was tasty enough, but I like my food with acid, so did utilize the packets of hot sauce that was included in my bag.

The Beefy Potato Loaded Griller was best in its first bites, as the potato was still crispy. Once cooled or reheated, they made the wrap dense and overwhelmed with their gritty, mash-like texture. I would have been happier with less fries and more seasoned beef, creamy chipotle sauce, and nacho cheese sauce within the grilled tortilla wrap.

There was a similar situation with the Spicy Potato Soft Taco, where I found l myself picking out the soggy fries and rebuilding the taco with packets of hot sauce and bean dip. Although without the fries this was just tortilla, lettuce, and cheese. Underwhelming comparatively. Although at $5 as is, this makes for a quick and inexpensive snack to stave off hunger with.

And for dessert they have Salted Caramel Churros. A whole stick, cut into three smaller bite-sized pieces. Fried golden brown and pipped with a sweet Oreo cream-like filling, before being dusted in salted caramel crystals. Equal parts crispy and creamy, this was a fun sweet treat.

In short, this was such a creative way to try and discover Taco Bell’s new Luxe Value Menu, featuring 7 brand new items and 3 beloved favourites, each $5 or less.
