We were at an event before that had plenty to drink and less to eat. So after we had our fill, we decided to seek out some sobering up eats nearby. This led us to our usual go-to of Congee Noodle House.

As always, by the time we decided to go we were rushing against the clock, trying to get in 30 minutes before they closed. Thankfully they never turn down paying customers and the food comes out fast.
The following is what we shared between four, and everything hit the spot.

I am a fan of Chinese roasted duck so liked their version with their thin noodles. They don’t have the best Chinese barbecue meats, but it does hit the spot that it needs to. The oils and gristle is what flavours the meal, with the broth and noodles with Chinese vegetable being on the milder side.

The broth was so good that we also got it as a part of the Beef brisket noodles. Same as the above, but with fatty chunks of beef with tender sinew, which I like.

The similar soup also made an appearance as the broth for the Shrimp dumpling with rice noodle. Large shrimp wontons with slippery flat noodles, for a soupy dish where its texture is as enjoyable as its taste.

My go-to is the Pork and preserve egg congee because they are called “Congee Noodle House” for a reason. There is no other I get preserved eggs, and it works so well to add its unique umami-ness to an otherwise plain dish. Similarly, the salty specks of meat, the crunch of the roasted peanuts, and the freshness from the greens all came together to offer a great variety of taste and textures in each comforting boil. This also comes with a stick of Chinese doughnut sliced. It offered a change of taste and texture with a chew like a dense croissant and the taste of fried bread.

The Pan fried beef rice noodles is another flavour and go-to of mine. Classic with its sweet soy glaze and chewy chunks of beef amongst a sea of soft noodles and juicy onion.

I also liked the XO sauce pork and persevered veggie noodles. Sweet and tangy, with a hint of spice, the flavour in the meaty sauce mix. This comes with a side of the same soup above, with your ability to have it as a side, or to turn your dry dish into a soupy one.

In short, this meal was what I wanted, when I wanted it, and I know I will be back again sooner than later.
