Today we were looking for brunch after gym and came to Egg Bomb on the recommendation of my gym buddy. She has been once before and liked it enough to return with me today.
Located within Lougheed Mall, it is easy to get to with plenty of parking, however you have to pay for it and none of it is reimbursed for dining in.
The cafe space is expansive with plenty of blank space and room in between tables take make it a comfortable lingering spot. With white tables and shiny chrome chairs, it felt modern and minimalistic, allowing for the dishes to be the focus of attention.
Seeing photos on their electronic menu and dishes walking pass in service, I couldn’t help but order with my eyes. The result, four drinks between two people, and an entree each.
The Caramel Cookie Tree was a latte that drank like a cookie. The latte art was chocolate “ink” painstakingly painted on to the foam “canvas”.
The Over The Rainbow used a strip of rainbow sour candy to arch a “rainbow” into a “cloud” of latte foam. The flavour was intended to be cotton candy, but we got a milky Neapolitan with strawberry on the forefront instead.
The Dalgona Rose Latte had a literal rose out of Dalgona floating ontop. For those unfamiliar, “Dalgona” is Korean candy made with melted sugar and baking soda, originating from South Korea. The potency is as strong and as bold as Vietnamese coffee. Its temperature slowly melts the iced Dalgona rose transforming the drink the longer it sits.
The cocktails were less visually exciting, but reading “Ginseng Highball” I knew I had to give it a try. This was in spite if if it being 9:30am. The bitterness of the ginseng was there, although well blended in with the rest of the mix for a surprisingly smooth drink that I would order again. I especially liked the Korean touch with the dates, furthering this as a one of a kind cocktail I have never had before today.
Moving on to food, I knew I had to try one of the sandwiches that they are known for. Out of all the topping options the Teriyaki Beef looked the most exciting with marinated B.B.Q beef, scrambled eggs, cheddar, egg yolk on top, and a house-made yogurt sauce. It was as messy as it promised with most of the scrambled, creamy egg nestled on the top. I recommend reconstructing the sandwich for more even bites and having it with hot sauce for the needed acidity that adds a brightening tang. I found this amazingly satisfying, and a great two handed eat that you can’t put down once you start it. Doing so would mean you won’t be able to pick it up again. Can recommend!
My guest went the more demure route with the Egg Calm+ platter. An assembly of toast, mixed greens, house-made apple dressing, house-made yogurt sauce, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, sliced avocado, and fresh fruits. Healthier and clean, a pick your own adventure and a balanced breakfast.
In short, this was a great girl’s brunch destination, where we caught up and got deep at. I spot I would recommend when in the Coquitlam area.
