Adult Easter Egg Hunt, Taves Farms

Taves Farm and apple barn in Abbotsford continues to be one of my favourite properties to visit. So, when Easter rolls around again, and I heard they were bringing back their adult Easter egg hunt, I was excited to give it a second go.

Truth be told last year’s affair with a little unorganized, and as a result, our time ran out, and we had to leave without taking part in the actual hunt. The reality was we came minutes before the actual start of the event at 5:30pm and our punctuality meant and we left waiting for everyone else to arrive and finish their meal. The result, was event runners delaying the event until it was darker and colder out. A closer to 9pm start instead of the anticipated 8pm, 2.5hours after the advertised start of the event at 5:30pm.

Therefore, I can stay in full confidence that this year’s event was a huge success. With assigned food/serving time slots and a covered and heated patio with live music to keep guests entertained and warm. All of which are adjacent to the farm’s cidery, where not only are you able to claim your complimentary cider flight that comes with your admission, but are able to order more drinks a la carte within. After all, what’s the point of an adult Easter egg hunt, if you aren’t meant to drink before or during it?

On today’s event date we arrived early to be the first to claim our 4-sampler cider flight. We had them as accompaniments to our mini bags of chips, seasoned nuts, and a help yourself bowl of chocolate Easter eggs, set at every share table.

We cloistered up at the warmest bench, adjacent to the live acoustic musician. The music certainly set the tone, giving us the ability to sing along and dance.

When time, we were invited to the window of the Steamworks food truck, to be able to claim our pre-ordered burger and sides. Either Steamworks fried chicken, regular beef or beyond beef burger paired with your choice of a side salad or French fries and ketchup.

After our meal and in between scooping out the egg hunt arena, we would play with Taves’ assortment of friendly barnyard animals. A more interactive experience if you have a hand full of feed for them. Fancy fowl, honking geese, hungry potbellied pigs, and greedy goats that won’t take no for an answer.

And right at 8pm as promised, everyone was gathered by the entrance of the apple orchard, prepared to run down the aisle looking for it and eggs and Easter memorabilia.

The goal was to collect five different coloured eggs and claim one of the larger numbered prizes for yourself. Either hanging decorative eggs, pastel animal cut outs, or porcelain figurines. With the grand prize, being a large golden egg. Each of the above was given their own designated prize. Once you met the egg hunt goals, you presented your bounty to the clerks at the cidery to claim your prize.

The animal cut out was a Taves branded growler and your choice of what cider to fill it with. The porcelain bunny yielded a travel ready Taves cooler bag stocked with 6 of their ciders in various flavours. And the grand golden egg prize included Taves apple chips, a cidery glass, a Taves baseball tee, a coupon for a free medium pizza and Boston Pizza, and admission for 10 for paint balling.

All in all, a great night and a fun experience. A teaser for the parents, who may have to return the following weekend for Taves’ children friendly Easter egg hunt.
