In this post we were celebrating the Vancity Original Brand’s latest capsule drop. In time for Cinco de mayo they have teamed up Espolòn Tequila to bring a little Mexican flavour on to the streets of Vancouver.
This limited-edition capsule collection was inspired by the vibrancy of Mexican heritage and fusing it with contemporary streetwear. Worth mentioning is that Espolòn has also teamed up with a local Toronto screen printing company PARANOID to produce a similar collection of wearable art for those out East.
Tonight we were invited down to the Vancity Original Brand flagship store to celebrate the kickoff with an unveiling. This was a private event with live DJ, catering by Ay! Mamacita food truck, and of course handcrafted cocktails featuring the spirit of the hour.
Ay! Mamacita came to feed with burritos, sliders, chips and dip, and even taquitos.
And at the back bar the Espolòn Tequila bartenders were mixing up Palomas and margaritas. Where the latter was sweet and citrusy with orange, the latter was salty and lime heavy.
This was also a good time to check out the extensive collection of caps, sneakers, and collectables the street wear store has to offer.
During the event we were given a glimpse into the creative process of launching such an innovative marketing campaign. This all started with an immersive trip to Mexico, “visiting Mexico City and Aguascalientes – hometown of José Guadalupe Posada whose revolutionary and iconic art serves as an inspiration behind the Espolòn Tequila label artwork. Filled with creative energy from the trip, Vancity Original and PARANOID each created a distinct Cinco de Mayo streetwear collection, reflecting their own unique vision of Espolòn Tequila and modern Mexico.” (As taken from the press release)
“Jeff Martin, the founder of Vancity Original, worked alongside Mexican-Canadian visual artist, Malamen, to authentically fuse Mexican tradition with modern street culture”. My favourite touch was the nod to Vancouver with the Aztec God of rain sporting their OG Vancity logo.
Fans of the brand can get this epic collaboration in a tee, hoodie, snap back or bucket hat; in either black or white backdrops.
And to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style, on May 5, 2024 at 12:00pm EDT a limited quantity of this collection will be released to the public for free, while supplies last. In addition to the online drop, a selection of the capsule items will be available at the Vancity Original store for walk-ins to claim on a first come first serve basis.
