Lunar New Year at Metropolis at Metrotown

To celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, Metropolis at Metrotown is hosting their annual Lunar New Year celebration. A series of free activities and workshops held in their Grand Court atrium for all ages to attend. Events will run from Sunday, January 22nd to Sunday to February 5th 2023.

I was invited to a sneak peek reception of the following to be able to report back here, with the rest of the following information taken from their website. Our visit included drinks and small bites catered by Savoury Chef.

Their Honey Matcha cocktail with sparkling wine, sake, and lemon was popular, I may have had 6. Or guests could enjoy their sparkling wine and whites and reds as is, by the glass.

Small bites included a deep-fried wonton cups, peanut rice rolls, pan-fried radish cake, sesame glazed shrimp, and a spicy sushi round. Not traditionally Chinese, but it meets Asian fusion requirements and tastes.

There was also a lovely, picture-worthy collection of tarts and cakes to nibble on.

If and when you visit, be sure to take advantage of all of the photos ops. This includes an aerial display of blossoms overhead, red and gold lanterns with a mirror for selfies by the second floor elevator, and a giant backdrop that includes balloons and paper fans.

During our visit we spent time playing with dancing lion puppets, noise making drums, and paper fans. We also took photos with an Ancestor God giving out red packages.

We learned about traditional teas, observed rainbow painting, and got our fortunes told by a psychic through tarot cards.

And then tried our hand at friendship bracelet weaving, folding grasshoppers out of ribbon, and molding lucky rabbits out of clay.

As for what you can expect when you visit the mall next week, look to the below.
