Mother’s Day is this weekend, and even if you, yourself are not a mom, you can celebrate. We all know a mom, a mother, or a mama. Whether it is your own, a friend who is a mom, or the mother figure in your life. The day is to celebrate the women in our lives who have taken it upon themselves to look out for others, and take care of those around them; often putting those needs before theirs.
So show a little appreciation and give a little time to a woman you love this Mother’s Day. On this day we would see how Metropolis at Metrotown is celebrating.
Taken from their press release “Starting April 16, and running through May 14, 2023, BC’s largest shopping centre transforms into an ode to mothers everywhere complete with shopping incentives, a lively Pink Disco Party, atmospheric décor, and photo opportunities.”
We attended the Pink Disco media preview to launch Mother’s Day weekend, and this was one of their most exciting events to date.
There was a live DJ playing familiar music from the 70’s and 80’s. Disco and dance hits to liven anyone’s step.
And if you needed a pick me up, Lions Bay Coffee Company was serving up pink lemon and pink lattes with raspberry syrup and a strawberry milk foam topping.
For those looking for something a little stronger, there was a customize your own mimosa bar, where you got your pick of spirit, juice and/or syrup, plus a finishing garnish and/or flourish to elevate the glass.
For those who like the classics there was also red and white wine by the glass and non-alcoholic fruit juice options as well.
With all the drinking, guests could look to small bit3/ at the help-yourself hors d’oeuvres table. Butternut squash balls, quiches, beef and pickled onion sliders, a prosciutto and avocado crema bite, and custard filled mini doughnuts.
And if you wanted to get a little creative you could decorate your own doughnut at the dough at bar with aerosol cans of icing and a bevy of colourful pastel sprinkles at your disposal.
And speaking of colourful, guests could get a little colour on themselves by making their own bath bombs with Lush Cosmetics. A fun learning experience on what goes into making one of their most popular items. As well as a little treat for yourself or even to gift to a mother.
For those looking for more pampering than arts and crafts. There was a hair and scalp analysis station, a makeup bar, and a luxury massage chair you could take a spin in.
But all eyes were on the runway when the spring/summer for mom’s fashion show started. Featuring a few of the mall’s most popular stores and their predicted best sellers and would be fashion trends.
And guests left with a bouquet they pulled together themselves using available flowers by local florist The Heart Company.
For those who missed the party, the decorations will be up for everyone to enjoy and then some. Each a great photo op, including “crystal-encrusted mannequins and disco balls, a glitzy selfie wall, and a backdrop of wings you can stand in front of and have your angel moment.
Worth mentioning is if you spend $250 between May 1-14, you’ll receive a $25 gift card, plus a chance to win a $500 shopping spree.
