After Christmas, Mother’s Day is one of the biggest shopping seasons and reasons, and Metrotown is well known for making their mall a welcoming destination for the occasion.
This is Moms and Mother Nature: A Match Made at the Met, a sneak peek look at what Burnaby’s largest mall has planned for the month of May.
In partnership with Decathlon, the outdoor behemoth’s flagship store, (on its one year anniversary), they have decorated the Grand Court to look like a fantasy-driven, indoor glamping site. This interactive space will be open from April 18th to May 19th, closed April 30th and May 10th.
It includes a grassland bebroom with a fully dressed bed in pitched tent, tethered hot air balloon, and campfire nook for s’mores. The latter includes a faux campfire with s’mores making on select weekends: April 26th & May 3rd.
A beachside games room with ping pong under a plastic tent.
Also, a spot-the-wildlife-themed game for both kids and adults.
The Met is hosting a ticketed Mother’s Day Glampsite Party. On May 10th from 12-2pm. It invites guests of all ages to this midday fête with music by a live DJ, cocktails and wine, and light canapes. We got a taste of the latter two which includes a s’mores cocktails that tasted like warm cider with burnt cinnamon and a toasted marshmallow.
And a collection of fresh vegetarian offerings by The Modern Pantry. This selection of bites included a charcuterie cone, saucy beets, smokey pork sausage, beet tarts, and a focaccia sandwich.
Amusements include DIY s’mores on the day, but we got ours dipped in milk chocolate, with our choice of toppings by firemen in support of the Family Life’s Women Driving Their Future program.
There were woodland photo opportunities, either with the staged backdrops or alongside the two costumed artists sporting towering heels. A frisky raccoon and a tree person with twigs for nails and matching purse.
There was craft-making like a s’mores card with googley eyes and gem stone cheeks.
We also got to repot our own plants, choosing between tomato, strawberries, or squash.
Those who attend the ticketed Mother’s Day Glampsite Party will be eligible to win a door prize. As well as receive a gift bag to take home, that includes a $20 Metrotown gift card. (Adults only). Tickets cost $40 per adult and $5 for kids aged 5-15 years; kids 4 and under are free. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Burnaby Family Life’s Women Driving Their Future program.
On April 24th, visitors to the mall who spend $200 (before taxes) will get a $20 reward card, as an incentive to save on a memorable Mother’s Day gift. The Met will donate $5 for each redemption (up to $5,000) to the Burnaby Fire Department. This is happening for one day only until quantities of cards sell out.
Mother’s Day celebrations at Metropolis at Metrotown take place April 18 – May 19, 2025. The shopping centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10am-9pm, and Sunday, 11am-7pm. For more information or to purchase tickets to the Mother’s Day bash, visit www.metropolisatmetrotown.com.
