Plateau Beauty Spa

Facials are one of those indulgences I don’t often engage in. I know the benefits and have seen firsthand their efficacy, but it is just one of those things that I don’t consistently invest in for myself, but maybe I should.

I invest in my body’s health through regular gym sessions, and eat vitamins daily for my internal wellness, so why am I not properly investing in my skin health just the same?

I want good skin and a youthful appearance and don’t necessarily want to do my own research as to figure out how to get it. Therefore, spas like Plateau Beauty Spa, with attentive experts, are a great resource. In actuality, I am very familiar with its owner, Carol and her good works. We once worked together and I saw her expertise and knowledge first hand as she handled and sold high-end cosmetic brands like Clarins and Guerlain. So to now see her transfer her professionalism and skill set into the role of medical aesthetician, I think it is a fantastic trajectory.

She has her own shop in an outdoor plaza, in Richmond. The space sees one client at a time and gives them her undivided attention to them. The service starts at the front desk where you discuss your skin care concerns, and together select a treatment that is best for you. Carol focusses on effective and non-evasive techniques like gua sha and has a variety of different packages based on your needs.

I decided to do a relaxing rose facial today, considering all the recent travel I’ve been doing and particularly hectic weeks I’ve been having.

After the consultation and the signing of waivers, you are given cup of warm tea and a sweet treat before being ushered into the service room.

There you are invited to disrobe and slip into one of their branded towel with a snap on clasp. This is because your facial includes a neck and upper back massage, and this ensures that your clothing is free of any oils that may be left behind.

The treatment bed is economic and heated. You were covered with a cosy fleece throw, and it is clear you were here for comfort and relaxation.

This facial starts as any other facial would with the removal of any makeup or residue on your face, so that she can start with a clean slate, so to speak. Then you see a series of cleansing, toning, exfoliating, masks application, and serums done as per your treatment objectives.

The standout for the rose facial is the use of rose quartz gua sha. This stone is associated with calming and soothing, it is the perfect stone to scrape and sculpt the surface of your face with. Whereas other facials focus only on the jawline, here at Plateau every inch of your face is targeted. There was time spent on the cheeks, around the eye sockets, forehead, and this transition to the nap of the neck and the base of your hairline.

I felt the effects immediately as my skin felt pulled in the direction of the scraping. It felt as firm and full as it looked. I could visibly see the desired outcome it with a snatched jawline and a well defined chin.

But the treatment does not end there. Rose oil was applied to my skin and satchel of real rosebuds and essential oils were dabbed on my face.

Then there was a mask applied, I was given a rose quartz mask to wear over my eyes, and invited to take a 15 minute nap. Admittedly, I already fell asleep twice during this experience, so had no trouble complying.

The service ended with a clean face and the preparation to get me ready to re-enter the world. A layer of moisturizer based on my skin needs was applied, followed by eye serum, and sunscreen being dabbed on.

My biggest takeaway and learning from today was the fact that you could still get UV rays from monitor lights, which means you ought to be wearing sun protection when on your phone, computer, laptop, and/or tablet. Meaning sunscreen is not only for outdoors use, but indoors as well.

I appreciated that Carol took the time to walk me through each individual step, and answer any of my questions. This included how each benefitted me, and then took the time to offer product and service recommendations.

She recommends 5 to 7 weeks in between facial services to maintain the look that the 90 minutes got us today. This new jawline and contour face would last until then she stated.

In short, this was a great experience, and I fully trusted in her capabilities and skills. She was so gentle that I fell asleep and the results were immediately evident. If looking for a little indulgence or you need that perfect profile for an event, I highly recommend Carol and her Plateau Beauty care.
