PNE Winter Fair 2022

When it is winter in Vancouver it is cold and rainy, and the only thing that seems to get Vancouverites out and about are seasonal lights. And in East Vancouver, those belong to the Winter Lights at PNE’s newest exhibition: the Winter Fair, on now until December 24th, 2022. Similar to both PNE’s outdoor summer and winter events of the past, but with a lot more unique experiences, this present. Guests can expect PNE signatures like roaming entertainment, popular carnival treats, mini donuts, and live indoor shows.

For those loyal to the Fair Grounds, you will see an array of familiar fixtures and displays re-imagined to create a walk of lights worth meandering through. All of which are 100% photo worthy and/or would make the perfect backdrop to any selfie. Take in giant glowing bears and deers, kissing swans, and a unicorn at the ready. Navigate your way through a couple of light tunnels, pass-through twinkling wrapped presents, and stroll into the locomotive of a golden train. Or take a seat on an ice throne with spear and sceptre in each hand.

There are inflatable snow globes and fog machines for ambiance. You can walk down candy cane lane with gumdrop bushes and lollipop trees, making your way to the gingerbread castle. Enjoy jolly dancers and in period themed carollers. Plus indoor live shows at set times like dueling pianos and one that gives you a chance to meet Santa. Pick-up last-minute gifts at the outdoor Marketplace with cozy knits, homemade toiletries, and collectable art, to name a few.

As for food, you are sure to find something you’ll like with the city’s favourite foodtrucks parked on Fair grounds. Get sushi rebuilt into a taco, hurricane potatoes on a stick, giant pretzels with dip, and Lebanese kebab platters. This is coupled with seasonal cold weather drinks and treats like mulled wine, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and chilli in a bread bowl.

For those who like it sweet expect popular carnival eats like deep fried oreos, kettle corn, and mini donuts. Or indulge in soft serve twirled into a cinnamon and sugar chimney cake cone, homemade flaky Portuguese custard tarts, and The Fair’s signature Rudolph reindeer candied apples.

For those opposed to the cold, warm up in the Holiday Theatre with live kids show and local performing groups. Enjoy a warm meal in the heated igloo seating area. Get cozy with an adult beverage and wait for the next duelling piano performance.

Or get out of the elements at the Tim Hortons Ice Rink located at the PNE Agrodome, featuring live music and Christmas decorations. Plus ice skating!

And if attending with young children, there is a kids zone where they can colour, write letters to Santa, read a Christmas story, and play ring toss plus various tabletop games.

This ten-day event runs December 14th to 23rd from 4:30pm to 10:30pm each night. And it also includes nightly indoor concerts. The event is ticketed. $15 for entry to the Winter Fair, the price does not include admission to the nightly concert. Concert tickets range from $39.00 – $69.00 each, depending on the performer.
