Runs from Thursday April 17 to Saturday June 28, 2025.
Laughter truly is the best medicine and one of the places I get my regular fix at is the Improv Centre on Granville Island. Their shows are about 1.5 hours long with intermission, so I always make a night of it with dinner before and the show to end.
We grabbed a few small bites and a couple have drinks from the neighbouring Granville Island Brewing before heading to the centre at the start of the show.
Worth mentioning is that there is a bar within, so you can grab a couple of drinks to enjoy in their lounge space and then carry on into the theatre. If you miss out before the show, you can also grab one during intermission.
As for the actual show, as its name suggests, this is loosely based on the reality dating show: The Bachelor; therefore “Bachelor-ish!” Five improvers play two characters each trying to win the affection of one bachelor. The audience provides prompts and suggestions helping to craft kooky characters. One by one they are dwindled down through the fabled rose ceremony, until only one contestant is left.
Like the TV show there was a dramatic limo entrance, heartfelt one-on-one dates, and the visiting of home towns where they met the families. The crowd was most excited when we got to help the bachelor choose who to give a rose to. And were on bated breath each round seeing who would advance.
As each show is different, with different performers and different suggestions, I won’t be able to give you any more than this. Recommended for lighthearted time.
