We Love Moms & Mother Nature

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Metropolis at Metrotown

It is Mother’s Day this weekend and Metropolis at Metrotown is throwing their annual party to celebrate. They are inviting everyone to come down with their mums, grandmothers, and any other motherly figures.

This is the “We Love Moms & Mother Nature ticketed event. An afternoon of Mother’s Day themed festivities, with partial proceeds donated to the Cause We Care Foundation. This is charity that was created “To help single mothers achieve economic security and wellbeing by supporting them through housing, childcare, education, employment, counselling, food security and essential supplies.” (As per the website).

Tickets cost $40 per person, and includes entry to the event as well as a gift bag that includes a $20 gift card to Metropolis at Metrotown. Tickets are still available for purchase through the link below.

And today we got a taste of what guests can expect, via this media preview two days before.

Metropolis at Metrotown’s Grand Court has been transformed into an English garden museum, designed from an ant’s perspective.

Entering through the flower adorned archway transports you into a magical world of giant paper flowers, fuzzy woodland creatures, shrubbery shaped like snails, and written factoids about the birds, bugs, and bees that surrounded us.

The centre piece is the wishing tree, where attendees can hang their written wishes. This is a free activity and for every leafy shaped tag hung, Metropolis at Metrotown will plant one tree.

As is the case today, tickets holders will be able to enjoy refreshments and small bites. Today we had an assortment that included spanakopita, vegetable spring rolls, corn bread, and a lentil mix with endive leaves. Light bites to match the nature theme.

There was also chocolate mousse cups and a vanilla cloud cake for something sweet to end on.

For drinks there was white wine and rose, as well as a refreshing spritzer shaken to order. Something to help set the tone and get the energy flowing, alongside the live DJ.

Activities include a build-your-own candy bar, where using tongs you gingerly place your chosen gummies into a plastic bag. Then that gets all dressed up with a mesh bag and a heart tag you can customize.

There is an adopt-a-plant experience where you get to take home a succulent and customize it with a hand written tag.

And if you are worried about keeping it alive, you can make your own paper flower to take home.

You can also learn about real bees and the ones that live in Metrotown’s roof top hives. They were installed by Alvéole, “a business dedicated to shedding light on agricultural issues like pesticide use, monocultures, and the loss of biodiversity.” (As per the press release).

There were also models dressed as faeries with florals woven into their hair, and crowns of dried botanicals on their heads; given names like “Meadow”, “Willow”, and “Blossom”.

There, guests could take in a live body painting demonstration by a local artist.

Mall vendors were also set up, giving out samples and doing demos. We had make up touch ups and perfume testing courtesy of The Bay. Sage had Mother’s Day kits and defusers on display. QE home had a set up of comfy pillows to hug and hold. And Lush were giving out quick hand massages with their lotions.

Plenty to see and do at an affordable price. Although if you can’t make the event, you can still enjoy the mall’s pretty spring decor. There are a handful of photo opportunities with mini-park installations situated throughout the shopping centre, and they will be up now through to June 1, 2024.

And bonus if you shop the mall and spend $275 (before taxes), you’ll earn a $25 gift card. This promotion runs from April 25 – May 12, while supplies last.

Happy Mother’s Day!
