Calafuria Rosé: Meet Me in Puglia

Tonight we were celebrating the onset of spring and patio season with rosé. We were discovering Calafuria Rosé, “a beautiful expression of Southern Italy’s coastal charm, where sun-soaked vineyards meet the Adriatic Sea”. (As taken from the press release)

The evening was themed around Puglia, where Calafuria is produced. They are slowly trying to change the opinion that quality rosé belongs to Provence. Puglia is located at the “heel” of Italy’s boot, renowned for its whitewashed hill towns, olive groves, and dramatic coastlines along the Adriatic and Ionian seas. It is sought after as being a stunning, sun-soaked region. All this which jibed with our planned intimate evening of sunset views, thoughtfully paired bites, and activations designed to transport guests straight to Puglia.

The region is known for orecchiette pasta and Burrata and guests were able to enjoy both. Orecchiette con Rapini e
Salsiccia from the fresh made pasta bar and Burrata from a walk around tray, dressed the way you like it. Other available bites included a self serve seafood buffet and a rosé sorbetto for dessert.

All this was naturally accompanied by Calafuria Rosé. All night long guests were able to sip on glasses of Calafuria Rosé. This was a patio ready, light wine with green strawberry notes. For those looking, Calafuria is available at BC Liquor Stores for $29.99 and on sale through the month of May for $26.99. But if you want to try before you buy – you can get a glass at any Earls location all summer long.

What you want to look out for is the Calafuria x Pantone collection. To celebrate their rosé and its unique hue, Calafuria has registered their pink with globally recognized colour experts, the Pantone Color Institute. They will be releasing a limited edition clear Magnum bottle that showcases Pantone Calafuria pink. It lands in BC come September, marketed as a collector’s piece worth watching out for.

But for today we were able to get our own bottle of Calafuria Rosé fragrance customized and personalized. It was light pink with a similar floral tickle on the nose as the wine. Engraved with our names or a phrase and the back and decorated with hand drawn art on the front label. The latter played on the wine brand’s mission of being more art and design focused.

As guests mixed and mingled, we were able to graze on passed snacks, craft our own wine charms, and dance to the songs spun by the live DJ. This was certainly a memorable way to meet the wine of the day.
