This week I had the 2026 Nissan Leaf SV+ at my disposal, and sadly I did not utilize it to its potential. With a full week of wine tastings, the Leaf mostly sat at home.
However, what little time I got with it, I savoured. The “SV” in the name stands for “Standard Value”. It represents the mid-level option for the Nissan Leaf, striking a balance between affordability and upgraded everyday comfort.
The colour and trim was eye catching in teal. I liked the high tech feel of the front row door handles that jut out as soon as you draw near with the key. The back seat door handles were just as discrete, hidden in the black of the window panel. This left the Leaf looking streamline alongside the unique and futuristic looking rims, drawing your attention closer.
In comparison, the interior was fairly basic. Cloth uppers and plastic panels on the door and dash. The smaller cabin was left minimalistic with a simple push button start, piano key gear shift, and matte screen climate control. Simplicity was key, and this design choice matched the feel of the Leaf for easy and economic everyday driving.
As an electric vehicle the 2026 Nissan Leaf comes with an audible hum. I found its music an eerie echo, like the background music in a video game when an ominous phantom is slowly approaching.
I was most impressed by how much the wheel could be adjusted. There was plenty of mobility whether it was closer to your body and/or upwards or downwards. Thus giving you a more curated drive.
I also appreciated how much faster the Leaf charged at basic pumps than other brands and models I have test driven this year. I also found it just as quick to self charge when coasting down hill.
My largest critique was the cameras. The reverse camera had a yellow tint to it, between the filter and the grainy visual it was legible, but hard to get past consider all of the sharpness of everything else above. This felt like a miss here.
