This week I had the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate LR. The main difference between Hyundai’s IONIQ lineup and models is their distinct body styles and sizes, ranging from a compact crossover and a streamlined sedan to a large three-row family SUV. You tell them apart by their numbers.
The “5” is their smallest unit with the seating capacity of up to five passengers. It is a compact, boxy crossover SUV. Fully electric its range is roughly 245 to 300+ miles depending on the battery and drivetrain choice. It comes with adaptors for both level one and two charging. For ultra fast charging, this has been upgraded and gives you from approximately 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes.
It is best for everyday practical driving with versatile cargo space, and a higher seating position.
Like all the other Hyundai Ioniqs the 5 has a “Vision roof”, which is a fixed glass sunroof that gives you an unobstructed sky above. The body is sleek with slim door handles that activate and pop out once the fob is near. Driving is push to start and the gear shift is located by the wheel with a twist in either direction.
All seat climate controls are located on the centre console, and as a result I found myself accidentally pushing them as I rested my arm.
This ultimate package version includes premium leather seats. Where the two front seat adjustments are electric, but wheel is manual. The wheels have been upgraded to a 20-inch alloy. The Advanced safety tech includes a 360-degree surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor, and remote smart parking assist. And there is LED projection lighting, with the option to customize colour based on your mood.
