This week we were in a pickup and sadly had no where to go with it. All this power and torque and nothing to tow.
A truck is not necessary the go-to for city commuters like us, but I can see the usefulness of its tailgate for specific situations. A seat for drive-in movies and picnics in the park, and even an elevated platform for your next camping trip. Not to mention the possibility of hauling cargo, trailers, and RVs; and moving large furniture and equipment around.
Pickup aside the 2024 Ford Maverick drives high like a SUV, with the same get up and go, but minus an additional row and covered cargo space. Although the rear bench does have flip-up seat cushions revealing under seat storage bins, for extra storage room.
And as far as backseats go, the Lariat comes with a spacious enough second row for additional occupants to sit comfortably for shorter trips. These back seat passengers get their own set of doors and climate control, a rear armrest with integrated cup holders, USB port, and heated seats. There is even an automatic button for the window at the back.
The Maverick seats 5 with bucket front seats. An 8-way adjustable sea with power lumbar for the driver, but only 6-way adjustable manual seat for the passenger. We especially liked the 4 way head rest that allowed for micro adjustments for the head and neck. Little clicks forward help to lock it into place.
The truck drives smooth with plenty of power between the 2.0L EcoBoost gas motor and the 8-speed automatic transmission, with all wheel drive.
The fuel tank gives you 52 litres with 2.5L hybrid and 62 litres with 2.9L EcoBoost. Furthered by the Ford Maverick’s Battery Saver Technology
The rotary gear shift dial is a modern touch, but does take away from the rugged appeal of a would-be gear shift. The bolts in the tough, interior plastic door handle does make up for this.
The 2024 Maverick has an all modern interior with 8″ LCD screen, enhanced voice recognition communication and entertainment system, Bluetooth connection, Sirius satellite radio, wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, cabin particulate air filter, USB Ports and C-cable ports; and B&O premium audio sound system with 8-speakers, including sub-woofer.
In short, a solid truck built Ford tough for the modern driver.
