This weekend we had the Mazda CX-50 HEV at our disposable. My partner is a fan of the brand, as it reminds him of his very first car many years ago, and cannot help but be impressed by the advancements to the line since then.
Designed as a family-focused compact SUV, it is smaller with a more compact cabin, it felt narrow and I found myself tucking my elbows in to accommodate. Visually, I liked the unusual pairing of the black faux leather with brown double stitching, it gave a certain elegance to the interior. It was peaceful with noise cancelling and surround sound speakers.
The seats just could have used some additional attention. These were hollow bucket seats, even with the lumbar extended as far as it can go, I couldn’t feel it against my lower back. I got unexpected hip support instead.
The hybrid model allows for further travel and greater savings at the pump at a combined 100 kilometres for petrol and battery. This is definitely one of the better fuel economies that we have test driven. And despite its green tag, the vehicle drives sporty with the handling and power to match.
I found that the driver‘s wheel didn’t offer a meaty grip. A little too light in the hands as you turned, although it did not oversteer thanks to its rigid chassis. The CX-50 was heavier on the turns, I really had to put my foot down on the brakes, so noted to be mindful and slow down. Although at the same time it had great accelerator pedal response.
My partner and I came into this weekend under the weather. Sick with a sore throat and runny nose. Ill, but not a bad as our bout of the flu last fall. Therefore the show must go on. We slept in and only left the house to eat.
Our first stop was the new Saino downtown Vancouver for their innagural Dine Out menu. They are a one of a kind Indian, Hakka, Chinese, and Nepalese fusion restaurant and I have never tried a combination of flavours like this. At $24.95 for 3 courses, this is a great deal and a great way to learn what they are about. More about this and our tasting notes in a seperate post.
For dinner we went to Main Street Brewery to celebrate Robbie Burns day. The Scottish Parliament considers this annual celebration a key cultural heritage event. This was our first time partaking and our first taste of haggis. It was a memorable night and a great way to learn more about the Scottish culture. Full recap of the night is already up in its own post.
The remainder of the evening was spent in rest, allowing time to recuperate and before we needed to eat again the next day.
The next day we went to the newest location of one of our favourite easy comfort eats, Dragon Bowl. We are a fan of their customizable, homecooked meals with your choice of protein, sauce, starch, and sides. There are many combinations to choose from and we have never had a bad experience or serving. Now with 6 locations to choose from you can get your fix more accessibly. My partner states that this chain is one of those restaurants that if he passes by will stop and grab a bowl at. More on their new Burnaby location in its own post to come.
Then like the day before it was time to go home and rest. Our colds would only get worse and we would both call in sick for work and school respectively the next day.
WTF, you’re supposed to stay home if you’re sick. Why would you knowingly spread germs all over town? Have some respect for others.
