Today we were at the picturesque Seasons in the Park, located within Queen Elizabeth Park. The perfect tranquil scene for the Canadian launch of Rewild Wines. The restaurant offers a stunning view of fresh greenery from their 180 veranda room, matching the theme of the sustainable wine perfectly.
Rewild is an Australian wine focused on vegan, sustainable, and regenerative practices of winemaking. Sustainably made with minimal intervention. Their varietals are a tribute to their home in the Southern Murray Darling and the grapes that grow there. They pride themselves on vibrant and easy-drinking at an amazing price point.
Surprisingly, despite the additional and costly efforts made to cultivate practices for a brighter and more positive future Rewind is highly affordable at $13 a bottle. This makes for a great table wine to have on hand for any occasion.
This is the bottle you bring to a casual meet up, one that you can afford to stock any dinner with, and that you can bring multiple bottles of to empress any host or hostess with. And if they had not told me, I would think it would be retailed in the mid $20 range.
We would become more familiar with their Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon. Two highly popular varietals that many wine, connoisseurs and the occasional drinker alike can appreciate.
As guests checked in and before we were led to the reception, there was a stunning display of dried wildflowers and branded wine barrels to take photos with.
We were directed to a private room, decorated in a similar fashion of bleached wood and pastel florals. Right by the door is a wall of wine glasses in both the aforementioned white and red. You helped yourself to either, each tagged with a description card that doubled as a keepsake. A drink tag made from paper embedded with seeds to plant and allow to blossom for next season.
And in line with that sustainable piece, invitees were also able to take home their own pot of micro greens. A station set up for DIY with a choice of either planting bok choy or sunflower seeds. Both chosen for their hardiness, both ideally kept indoors and spritz daily, and both serving as eventually at the ready garnishes for your salad and/or sandwich.
As guests continued to crowd the room, we were able to graze from a table of charcuterie and vegetables. Roasted vegetables, cured meats, rounds of cheeses that look like cake, as well as fresh figs and grapes. Perfect bites to nibble on and a company their wine.
The Pinot Grigio was sweet with orchard fruits the likes of apple and pear. The Cabernet Sauvignon was on the tart side with juicy plum and cherries. Both younger wines with very little complexity. Both curated to be easy drinking table wines.
Small bites were also passed around. Prepared and served by the Seasons staff. Platters of jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce, spinach and cheese spread over crostini, mushroom arancini balls, and whipped salmon and cream cheese over a cracker.
All in all a very enjoyable night and a great way to get better acquainted with this new wine to the Canadian market.
