Aurora Roasters

We were in Abbotsford looking for a bite for breakfast. There are so many delicious cafes downtown, I have yet to try one that I didn’t like. So today we decided to check out the newer, Aurora Roasters.

This is an easy to spot cafe with the mural of Sasquatch in a spacesuit, painted on the side of the building.

Right at the entrance is their coffee bean roaster and we walked it just in time to watch a batch of roasted beans get unleashed to air dry.

It was busy this Sunday morning, but enough staff to keep the steady flow of customers caffeinated and fed.

All their pastries are so appealing in individual drawers, and their savoury sandwiches alluring behind class for easy ordering.

We grabbed a couple of cups of coffee and some savoury bites to enjoy outside on their patio, but noted the rotating super hero pop art on display in the cafe seating area today. We also packed a handful of sweet options to have later.

Having seen them being roasted, I wanted to try their house Guatemala beans. Got it as a dark roast drip coffee. It had a clean coffee taste with a hint of natural sweetness. I am not a coffee drinker, but I liked this. It went down so smooth and so easy that it warmed me inside out.

The Vietnamese latte was enticing as a lover of Vietnamese coffee. It has all the flavours, but as a toned down milky latte.

We had the Salami on focaccia toasted to enjoy right away. Everything was so fresh. The herbs were fragrant, the roasted pepper smoky sweet, and the bread helped to temper the saltiness of the salami.

The Ham and cheese croissant was buttery and flakey, you could tell it was made in house on the same day. It felt light, and not doughy with the perfect amount of meat and cheese at it centre.

I have never seen a multigrain croissant before so had to try this Black truffle multigrain one. This one was doughy and ate more like bread. Soft and chewy, it was best warm with some salted butter to highlight the umami of the subtle truffle.

The Apple vanilla Danish wasn’t too sweet. It had a gentle orchard roasted flavour so the pastry is still the star. Its cream centre the ideal companion for the flakey crust. A lush foam that is still airy and light.

And the White chocolate orange scone had a great tea time quality to it. A unique assembly of fruity citrus and sweet chocolate. Best to eat this one of the day of as it does toughen and dry out days after.

I liked this look of this classic Chocolate chip cookie flatten for a crispy over chewy texture. It felt like you got more cookie with smaller bites from this one.

In closing another great downtown Abbotsford cafe, I can see why they were so busy.
