Today we were checking out the new Chocolats Favoris in Gastown, a French Canadian ice cream parlour from Quebec. Previously their closest location was Victoria, but now fans of the brand can get their soft served and dipped ice creams in Vancouver.
On top of soft serve they also sell their own house made chocolates, cakes, and sauce for fondue. For the former also comes in bars, lollipops, and gourmet bonbons.
The feature is definitely their hand dipped cones. Get it in either the less sweet dark, the traditional milk chocolate, or as a blue cotton candy. A thin layer coats the cream, but you can also add a scoop of chocolate to the bottom of your cone or cup for a sweet ending.
If you are looking for a further indulgence you can have your cones further topped with their “kooky” option. Ten different choice that includes familiar flavours like salted caramel with maple dipped popcorn, their hazelnut praline with a royaltine truffle, and dark chocolate dip with freeze dried raspberry crisps.
They also have a rotation of limited edition flavours to give you reason to visit regularly, this month it was a skittles kooky and a peach flavoured softserve.
In order to be able to try a few flavours we decided to get the smallest size: the baby cone in a couple of kookys. Given how sweet each was, I think this was the right way to go, with the least amount of commitment.
We tired the more tart raspberry soft served dipped into milk chocolate.
The kooky Crunchy Hazelnut with a hazelnut swirl of fine chocolate, hazelnut bresilienne, and a milk chocolate drizzle.
The Cotton Candy has a coloured white chocolate based dip with cotton candy sprinkles, and actual cotton candy chunks. Naturally this was as sweet as it looked.
In conclusion, their small shop has already seen plenty of traffic, and will only receive more once the warmer weather hits. Currently there isn’t an ice cream offering in the heart of Gastown, so this fills that gap. (The only other option is Soft Peake at the edge of Gastown).
