Liuyishou’s Robson location is celebrating their 9th year anniversary and have some
promotions to encourage you to come down and share the festivities with them. From April 14th to the 30th if you make a deposit for 4 future meals you get you current one for free.
There will also be a raffle draw for a free surprise gift and a free dessert. The latter is an ice cream sundae with Pocky sticks, mango syrup, and popping candy. A fun and refreshing way to end the meal.
They are currently the only ones offering a tiered hot pot experience, where you can boil your hot pot while barbecuing meat on a grill just above it. Two ways to eat all you can.
New to the barbecue feature is that you get a thin steak to be able to fry on top of it. Dressed in sauce you cook it whole then cut it down to size with the provided kitchen shears.
We tried their two new soup bases: a Golden Chicken Broth with chicken meat included and their Japanese Sukiyaki Soup Base that comes with daikon, enoki mushrooms, and dates already boiling in the clear broth.
I have always haphazardly boiled up my chosen hot pot dishes with careless abandon, but today decided to follow the instructions on the placemat and boil a few of their signature items, as recommeded for the best experimence. We went scientific with it and even used a timer for the utmost accuracy.
Ready in minutes was the Shrimp Paste, Braised Spicy Beef, Sliced Beef; each a minute each. The Sole Fillet was 2 minutes, the Shrimp 3 minutes, and their Green Bean Starch Noodles, 8.
Ready in seconds was the Bean Curd Roll at 5. The thin slices of Beef and Lamb were 15-18 seconds. The Shrimp Paste on Donut was 30, along with the Beef Aorta.
More forgiving boils were the mushrooms, meat balls, tofu, and luncheon meat slices varying from 2 to 5 minutes.
Sadly our dutiful cooking practice only lasted a couple of rounds, and we found ourselves falling back into our old practices of whatever goes boiling and grilling. Honestly at the end of the day things do get monotonous, and you are basically eating sauce from the help yourself sauce bar.
They also have a help yourself cooked food bar with fried popcorn chicken nuggets, chicken wings, fried rice, salad, and fried buns with condense milk.
And a self serve raw vegetables and ball trough for quicker food consumption, without the need to go through the server and check -box menu.
We did get creative by making our own fried rice on the grilling platform combing garlic, green onion, and chilli oil from the sauce bar with an order of steamed rice and a freshly cracked raw egg, plus self serve luncheon meat. It didn’t have the same wok fire, but the taste was there, especially with the salted sausage chunks I added in.
In short this was yet another fun visit to liuyishou and we left well fed and full.
