Summer Nights At The Keg Ft. Heineken Silver

Tonight we were invited to the third floor, roof top of The Keg in Yaletown to celebrate Heineken’s newest beer. This is a low ABV and low calorie light beer at 4% and 90 calories. My only question was, where was this when I spent my youth losing at beer pong?

This was a causal mixer with enough seats for all the guests invited. We were able to claim a table or bar stool of our choosing, while exploring the closed off space. There were stations for self service and servers came around offering small bites.

Right by the patio entrance was the Heineken stand with reps pouring tasters and speaking to the product launch.

You could also grab a bottle to drink out from their travel cooler. I found lips on glass more enjoyable than curved around a plastic rim.

We could also pose for photos in front of their branded wall and inflatable Heineken Silver can.

Food stations included heated troughs of sliders in grilled rib steak with roasted garlic mayo, and freshly shaved prime rib with horseradish dijon sauce and caramelized onions.

Beef is definitely The Keg’s claim to fame and these did not disappoint. I ended up eating the slices as is, leaving the plain bun aside.

The cold bar had shrimp cocktail I missed, plenty of oysters on ice, and lobster rolls.

These were west coast oysters served with martini cocktail sauce, horseradish, maple mignonette, and tabasco for self serving. They were larger and milkier than I would have liked, so I leaned heavily on the listed sauces, and it helped.

The lobster rolls fragrant in cream and dill were my favourite, although I would say they were 90% shrimp than lobster.

And at the vegetarian station there were garlic cheese toast triangles with a blend of cheddar and monterey jack blend.

We enjoyed the fried cauliflower tossed in chipotle hot sauce and served with a lime aioli, but this wasn’t really finger food, ideal for a mixer.

There were also spinach balls being passed around. I liked the crispy coating, but not the texture of the dense centre of wilted greens and melted cheese, so passed on these.

On top of the light and low calorie beers we were also able to order wine and cocktails at the bar as alternatives.

Overall, this was a nice way to spend a warm summer’s day and be introduced to a new drink option to enjoy with it.
