The last time I craved a Whopper I had to drive to 2 different Burger King locations, only to be denied. One had their grill broken, the other was without their burgers. I ended up getting a butter chicken poutine because chicken was some how possible from the same kitchen. Regardless, I had my lunch of fries and sauce and it did not satisfy. I have not visited Burger King since.
However, I love a good novelty burger and seeing that they have a limited edition Adam’s Family Burger, I had to give it a try.
The gothic lifestyle and retro movies have been making a strong appearance in popular culture, so this cross over is no surprise. I just wish they also did a Beetlejuice electric green one to match. I would have gotten both.
Be warned, the Burger King location I went to did not have the burger listed on their overhead menu. Although there was a poster of it outside of the restaurant and another within, so you know it is available for order. Its thematic sweet sides are advertised.
The burger in question is a classic flame broiled Whopper cooked over real fire, which is what sets Burger King apart from other fast food joints with mascots.
As far as a quality fast food burger goes, this is one of the better ones. I can’t speak for their other burgers, just the Whopper with 1/4 lbs of beef, ripe tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy pickles, and sliced onions. This is part of my childhood, along with their cookies and cream ice cream. This was once upon a time served in a styrofoam cup that I found better than a McFlurry, and much cheaper at 99 cents to $1.29 a serving.
I digress. All the above is sandwiched between a warm toasted sesame seed bun. And the one for this limited edition release is a Royal purple with black sesame seeds. I appreciated the colour choice as opposed to the black, which has already been done. Plus it felt more like teenage girl with colour scheme. The dye job did not affect the fluffy texture of the burger. It was exactly as expected, equally parts crispy to soggy with vegetables versus thin patty and spongy bun.
You can make the Wednesday burger a combo with Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake and Gomez’s Churro Fries. Although, I didn’t. I was coming out of lunch some where else and was relatively full. I was only really getting the burger now out of convenience and being at the right place at the right time.
The former look to be like a regular chocolate shake with nothing about it, reading “Morticia Adams”. Whereas it could have at least been served in a wispy silhouette of a glass to match hers in her dress. Also, the name felt out of place. In what way was Morticia “kooky”. She was the serious one, if anything, Gomez is the silly one.
As for the fries, these are meant to be a dessert side. Cinnamon and sugar miniature churros sticks with a side of dolce de leche dipping sauce. This did speak well enough to Gomez’s Latin roots.
In the end I was glad I got to experience the burger and I really enjoyed taking photos of it. However, at just about $10 for only the burger, this is definitely not worth the two almost $2 more price hike. You are better off saving and getting the regular Whopper, as both taste the same. It would have been nice if they added a different ingredient to have the Wednesday one standing out. Like deep fried pickles or black olives. I know the latter would have turned a lot of people off from it, but I would have enjoyed it, and it certainly would match the theme.
In short, worth buying and trying if you are part of the fandom. Only around for a limited time. And be sure to pick up their collector’s matching Burger King crown to go with.
