I was a little late to the season for this one, but silver lining we had the field all to ourselves.
Lakeland Flowers is home to the Abbotsford Tulip Festival, which runs from April to May, and in summer this transforms to the Abbotsford Summer Flower Festival featuring sunflowers, which is on now.
Here, you can enjoy the blooms as you walk amongst the rows. Or plan your next photo shoot with the sunflowers in the foreground and the BC mountains in the background. The field is also staged with props for use like swings, bikes, and canoes.
They have cleverly sectioned off a part of the field for photos, where the blooms are not picked and are still clustered in tight batches, for that desired “swimming in an ocean of flowers” feel.
Behind it is the U-Pick fields, where guest are given cutting shears and the opportunity to hand pick their own bouquet. Although, this close to fall, and with the spotty sun we have been having, the field is looking fairly bleak.
Not photogenic, but we were still able to find plenty of blooms worthy of snipping and taking home as a souvenir of our time here.
Although we concentrated out efforts on the sunflowers, there are plenty of other flora to enjoy, like meadow wild flowers. And this season, are their marigolds, that you can string your own garlands with. Had I known this before writing this review post, I would have taken advantage. What a unique idea that you can wear as a crown or lei.
Any season and any day there is still so much beauty to uphold at Lakeland Flowers. And if you visit the Sunflower Festival on a cloudy, overcast day like we did, you can capture the perfect photos and videos without the need to photoshop anyone out of your background.
