Par Tee Putt, updated course

Are you looking for that date night option that includes drinks, food, and a fun activity?

Combining indoor mini golf with a casual bar atmosphere that allows you to go back and forth between the two, this is Par Tee Putt. Here, you can take on a couple of holes, then a couple of sips, breaking for a small bite, before transitioning into to a round of darts, or even arcade games.

I have visited a handful of times before, but recently they have updated their course, so I was back to get a lay of the land; figuratively and literally. They have expanded the golf experience, adding new holes. And now have it flowing throughout the entire top floor, instead of just half of the room, thus allowing for a more spacious and enjoyable gameplay.

Be warned, like a bar they do check for ID, with a bouncer at the door. And like a club, they take a photo of it, and your face before you enter.

You check in at the main counter where you purchase the ability to play upfront. There, you are given a score card and a golf pencil to count your pars. Here, you also choose the colour of the club you wish to play with between neon pink, blue, or green. And as a fun, add on, you can also purchase a branded visor to help get you in the mood to mini golf. Although stylish, it does not actually improve your abilities.

The courses are upstairs, which is also where you pick up your golf ball. And again you have your choice of colours. We went pink on pink to match the pink visor.

Each golf hole is named and labelled with the target number of putts to complete. There are also tips on how to play and win at each. Scoring is based on how many strokes it takes to get the ball in the hole, and the lower the number, the better.

For those familiar with the course, your favourite holes are still there. For example, the spoof on Game of Thrones with a throne made from golf clubs. For this hole you need to chip your ball into the centre of the seat. It also provides a great photo app.

Other TV and movie references includes the Family Guy cartoon living room set, taking a bike ride with ET and dodging boxes of Reese‘s pieces candy, putting around driftwood and avoiding Jaws, the shark.

New was the Tron themed course with light up cycle lines.

And new to Par Tee Putt is a Pokémon themed hole with giant poke balls and Pikachu.

There were nods to Vancouver with holes based on the Lion’s Gate Bridge, Science World, and the Canuck’s home ring at Rogers Arena.

Game themed holes include a chess board, a retro Nintendo controller, and a Plinko wall. For the latter you don’t actually putt, but simply drop your ball into the top and hope for a lucky hole-in-one. Which yours truly actually did get on her second try.

They have removed the twister board hole, that included a mannequin in mid play, obstructing the course. But in its place has added a giant operation board. The goal of this hole is to putt the ball in any of the open organ slots and hope that it comes out the back end at a convenient spot putt it into the final hole.

We decided to play for fun, and not to keep score, especially as it proved challenging, having to move paper, pencil, our belongings, and cocktails from par to par. Instead, we struck balls and tried our hand at each until our heart’s content. In truth, I was working on having a video of strictly hole in ones for my Instagram reel, which prove to be more challenging than anticipated.

Although this was helped along by the bars that are located at either end of their open space. We started off with a couple of drinks to nurse as we played, and after we built up our appetite, had a few more in conjunction with some bar classics from the kitchen.

For round one during play we had the “Jenny’s Apple Blottom” with Kettle One Vodka, Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice, Apple Cider, and Ginger Beer. And the “John Daly” which is a mix of Smirnoff Vodka, Lemonade, and iced Tea.

Found two we went with the class Corona and Lime, and their Very Berry Prosecco which is sparkling wine with a muddle Mixed Berries.

For food we shared a couple of their bar style appetizers starting with their “Birdie Wings”. 2lbs or their Buffalo Butter flavoured wings paired with their Blue Cheese dip for a tangy and creamy pungent finger-licking good snack.

And another pound of salt and pepper, because when it comes to wings, you can never share too many. Plus I like to alternate between a saucy and dry wing, when possible.

We all enjoyed the Smoked Mozzarella Sticks with its stringy pull apart cheese centre, served with a not spicy and mostly sweet marinara-like Chili-Tomato Jam.

The Potstickers were not authentic, but it gave you what you are looking for from a bar-style dumpling. Chicken and Vegetable served with Sweet and Sour Sauce with plenty of fresh green onions topping it all.

The listed “Smashburger” was more like a regular burger with 5oz. Patty, Bacon, American Cheese, Iceberg Lettuce, and 1000 Island dressing; all with in Potato Roll. A hearty enough burger that satisfies, but nothing out of the ordinary. The alternative side of onion rings were the highlight here.

As fun as all the mini golf play was, my favourite attraction at Par Tee Putt was the punching bag game. We took turns giving our best step and punch to the hanging bag, all in hopes of achieving the highest score for the most powerful punch.

They were also darts available for playing, where you would only need to exchange your ID for a set of three.

There’s also a basketball free-throw game that I am fond of for two dollars a play. However, we decided to go with the Skeetball arcade game for a dollar per play instead. I found we did better here than we did at the mini golf version, where we had to chip your ball into the similar skee holes

In short, this is a great activity to do with friends, or as breezy light option for date night. There is lots to do and plenty of photo ops. The drinks and food were a fun addition, and I appreciated the ability to engage in other arcade games, as well as dance to the live DJ set that came on later in the night. This all makes for a great one stop shop for your next date out. I have never had a bad time here.
