Today we were back at PNE’s fairgrounds for another Feaster drinking event. It was all spirits yesterday, and today just rose, with a few cider and sparkling wine options intermingled. A total of 35 participating wineries from BC locals to international offerings.
You exchange cash for pink tokens at 1:1. Today drink prices were fairly reasonable. 2 tokens, which is $2 gives you a 5oz pour. Or you can split it between two at 2.5oz each, for a tasting size.
I attended 2023 year’s inaugural year, so can safety say that things have increased in scale since last year. Where it was a festival of pink wine, it has evolved to a music festival, with wine for 2024.
The entire expanse of the fairground is open, with the optimal amount of ground for ticket holders to sprawl out on. With so many people, this is definitely an event you attend with a larger group of friends and slowly spend the day at.
You find your desired spot and claim it with a blanket. And if you failed to bring one you can purchase one at the merch shop. There, they have Disco Rose themed blankets: a pink waterproof tarp covered in their disco ball and flamingo mascots. They also have pink paper umbrellas to keep you shaded from the sun, while staying stylish. And you can even purchase a bubble gun to help cultivate the festive vibes with streams of bubbles at adjustable sizes.
It is worth exploring the expanse of the festival grounds as there are quiet pockets with its own mellow DJ, for those looking for a more subdued energy, or just to take a break from the heart pounding beats.
Plus there are several unique photo ops to pose in front of. Like white feathered angel wings, a white gazebo with flowers, and inflated “Rose Disco” sign, and even paid models in sparkling outfit ready to pose with you in front of a giant branded pink beach chair.
For food there are 12 different food truck options from tacos to pizza, fish and chips to doughnuts. There was even coffee and ice cream, something for everyone.
We were aiming for Taco Nori’s sushi style tacos, but the line was too long and we had much more waiting in store. So, instead, we went to their neighbour the Reel Mac and cheese truck. We figured our money would go further and it was probably best to have some carbs going into this.
We had two of their macs topped with different sliced sausages and a spicy sausage hot dog topped with banana peppers. The pasta was saucy and cheesy, and best of all ready to scoop and serve as soon as you got to the front of the line to pay.
There is a-lot to see and do, but the main reason for the large attendance is the live DJ sets from Felix Cartal, with opening acts Jessu & Pyka and DJ Yurie; followed by Bynx. It is a mosh pit before the stage with jumping and fist pumping.
In truth we went as a duo and found it anll overwhelming. I would do this with a group next year for optimum fun, planning ahead with blankets and eating before as to not have to wait in line to order when I get there.
