This week we took the 2026 Genesis GV70 Electric to Chilliwack for a mini staycation. The ride was over two hours with a detour through South Surrey to pick up my travel companion, before heading back on to the high way.
Coming fresh out of the 2026 GV80 the week before, I really didn’t find much difference in the furnishing and drive. Shame luxury drive, but with a metallic blue exterior and a creamy white leather interior. The latter all centred around Genesis’ iconic real crystal dials. One for the navigation, the other serving as the gear shift. Each a smooth glide and an easy turn, like increasing the volume on some sound equipment.

There was so much of the same cosmetic and creature comforts that I confused the two models. In actuality the only difference between the two is that the Genesis GV70 is a compact-to-midsize luxury SUV focused on sporty handling and value. While the GV80 is a larger, mid-to-full-size SUV, offering more space with a 7-seat option, and a more commanding road presence.
I would recommend the former for city driving, like we were doing this weekend. Whereas the latter is better served for families and those who need the extra cargo space and hauling power.

As the fully electric model, I was impressed by how much mileage I got from 2026 Genesis GV70 Electric. Over 120km of straight driving, and we reached our destination on half a tank. Then were happy to discover that our accommodation for the night had BC Hydro super chargers, and enough units that I didn’t have to wait for one to free. In under 30 minutes the battery was full.
I liked how discrete the charging outlet was. Hidden behind the front grill, a trap door swung open with a push of a button. You only need to visit the trunk for the right adapter and you are good to charge.
