A week in the 2025 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport

This week I was sporting the 2025 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport, and this one will be a hard to give up at week’s end.

Genesis produces very attractive vehicles. Lower to the ground with a sleek body and hugging curves, that speak to it aerodynamics. It had the hallmarks of a sports car, dressed in Genesis’ trademark electric blue.

Inside, the G70 has all the modern conveniences and creature comforts one is looking for in a daily driver. Starting with the double stitch of their quilted leather seats with both heating and cooling function. The heat extended to the wheel as well. It too was dressed in the same plush fabric, that includes dimples and a smaller frame, offering a sturdy hold and better grip.

I appreciated the lax bucket seats, they gently embraced, allowing for a more wide and comfortable sitting. Despite the capacity for two more passengers at the back, the smaller and tighter cabin certainly made the car feel more like a coupe. Ideal for one, a little cozy for two people, but three is a crowd.

The technology is tops with a touchscreen, infotainment system, USB phone connection, wireless and C-cable charging. Just as functional are the surround cameras. An overhead for parking, and a side panel views for the corresponding turning. The driving was made easy.

Depending on the drive mode, the dash and odometer would change in colour and appearance. Each setting offered a 3-D depth of field look, which I found appealing and enjoyable to look at. The sports setting was definitely the most alluring with its bold, fiery red needle. This was for both sports and sport plus mode.

I appreciated how when you set it to any given drive mode, there it remained, without the need to reset it at the start of every drive. I kept it in Eco to save on gas, as midway through the week I was already half a tank down, and this was just for my regular commuting.

To the Genesis’ credit, the gas saving mode did not diminish the drive. There was just as much gusto in the acceleration in Eco, a little pump went a long way. It was just as nimble on the handling and speedy on the in take. This made every day driving feel like an adventure. By comparison I felt I was flying on the Sport mode.

On Monday I attended a candle making workshop with Ollie & Co. We were taught how to craft our own custom candles from curating the scent to folding the box it would eventually go in. The full story on that and my inspiration to come in its own post.

For dinner we were treated to an authentic Mexican, 4 course meal prepared by local private chef Mildred. She opened her own house to us and wowed us with her homey flavours meet restaurant quality finesse. Why go out to eat when you can enjoy something healthier with such an amazing view instead? More about this experience and how to hire her for your next dinner party to come in its own post.

The next day I drove out to Richmond’s Daan Gao for some specialty treats. They have a wide selection of sweet and savoury croissants and I got a six pack to enjoy the following day, across all its meals.

I also picked up one of their celebration cakes to share. A Swiss roll hidden behind the facade of a whole roasted pig with maraschino cherries for eyes. I presented it to my co-students and the faulty of VCCT. It was a big hit, no one has seen such creation.

For dinner we went to Hawksworth to check out their new seasonal menu, under the guise of girl’s night with sparkling wine and signature cocktails to boot. The latter menu included a seafood tower, hearty entrees, and a dynamic dessert. Full review of dinner to come.

On Thursday it was a day of wine starting with a wine luncheon at Le Crocodile. This featured 7 courses and 7 wines from a M.Chapoutier. This was an extravagant and decant meal with A5 Japanese wagyu, lamb, and venison. Full tasting notes and biggest takeaways from this informative seminar to come in its own review.

Our second wine event of the day had us exploring something more local. We had the opportunity of walking around the open event space of Brix & Mortar, engaging in wine producers and tasting their latest bottles. Present was Res Rooster, Gray Monk, Sandhill, Blackhills, and Tinhorn Creek. Once again all the tasting notes to come in its own post.

And on Friday we started the weekend off right with a massage from Yuen Foot Massage’s Coal Harbour location, equipped with a private party room that includes a bar. Here, we succumbed to an amazing and fully revitalizing foot and full body massage. More on this to come.

The evening ended with an invite from BC’s Wine Appreciation Club. They were clearing out their cellars and I was invited to help. On this day it was Meritage wines with six bottles to taste and two bonus bottles to share. All the tasting notes and a look at their cellar to come in its own post.
