Galaxie Craft Brewhouse

Did you know that White Rock is a part of Surrey? Today we were given a tour of some of the best and most unique places to check out in Surrey, and I was surprised that our travels took us to White Rock, as one of its municipal districts.

This is one of White Rock’s microbreweries with a space theme. They originally toyed with the name “Interstellar”, but alas it was taken. Thankfully “Galaxie” worked with what they were doing. The bar encapsulates the name with their tasting room walls painted like the milky way with straws strewn across it. There was a astronaut space suit prop, and we were all scared by the Alien mannequin dressed like a wizard.

But most impressive were their round wooden tasting boards that resemble planets and the backdrop of space. They matched the energy of their copper stills, visible from the bar. Most of everything they offer is on tap for ordering as part of a 4 glass taster, an a la carte pint, or to fill a growler.

During today’s visit we would get to try one of each of their listed beers, except for the sold out (at the time) borealis blueberry wheat ale.

The Milkyway strawberry ale gave you the aroma of sweet summer berries on the nose, but was more floral-like on the palate.

The Black hole chocolate stout was thick and chocolatey like syrup. It had the consistency of a proper stout.

The Haileys comet IPA was tart and tangy, acrid, but not as hoppy as expected.

You either like sours our your don’t. I don’t, but didn’t mind this one. The Polaris Peach sour was more mellow than lip puckering sour. It ends with a citrusy note.

The Interstellar pale ale was on the spicer side with a warming feeling throughout.

The Pluto Pilsner had the expected tangy after taste.

The Lite year west coast IPA was a more lip puckering IPA.

We all raved about the Peanut butter porter. You smelled it first like fresh baked cookies. It finishes off in your mouth with a creamy sensation and the taste of peanut butter. We all wanted to take a few cans of this home with us, but as their test batch it was not ready to be bottled to order, like the others.

For this and their other small batch test runs, they feature it, and depending on their customer’s reactions it either runs its course, the tap is emptied and the beer is discontinued. Or as in the case of our Peanut butter porter it was met with so much positive feedback that it will soon become a regular menu item.

However, for today we would get a couple of their pale ales canned before our very eyes for take out. A process we were fortunate to witness and to gasp in awe in, from the back of the bar.

In closing, Galaxie is a great bar option and a fun brewery to visit when looking for something different. Also for those who like a good theme. Unexpected for Surrey.
