Today we were invited down to the Vancouver Art Gallery to celebrate the launch of the new Omega Aqua Terra 30mm. A new line of innovate women’s luxury time pieces. Twelve different pieces that includes two new Master Chronometer Movements.
This was described as “a masterclass in elegance and innovation”. After 175 years of creating time pieces with an ethos on what is new and modern, the Omega Aqua Terra 30mm are watches that bore a completely new design, not just a scaled-down versions of their predecessors. They featured custom lyre lugs and a slim 10.6 mm profile. A new calibre equipped with Omega’s in-houseMaster Chronometer movements–Caliber 8750 (steel/two-tone) and 8751 (gold)-specifically engineered for this 20 mm diameter, sub-4 mm thickness platform. This was the world’s smallest master chronometer movement, let alone in their collection.
This was declared the most versatile time piece in their collection made in over four years. A new bespoke caliber at 26% thinner than the last model, without sacrificing on the technology.
Twelve references are launched, spanning steel, Moonshine/Sedna gold, and two-tone options. Being able to try on the 50k+ pieces I can confirm the lofty weight of a few and that the thinner face added to a more streamline and sleeker appeal.
As for the event itself, we were checked in at the base of the gallery and ushered up a red carpet. There were attendants available to shield and walk up those without umbrellas. They bore red umbrellas to match their brand with logo bold.
Sadly the evening saw rain and the art gallery patio party turned inward into the smaller bistro space. Outside, the canopy covered couches with robust florals and tall candle displays in their trademark red and white were left vacant. Inside, all restaurant tables and chairs were removed for a standing only affair.
Only a briefly introduction, no formal presentation, the rest of the evening was a free-for-all mingler.
Activations included an Omega branded Photo Booth.
There was also a roaming magician regaling guests with close up sleight of hand and card tricks.
For drinks there was an open bar with options for wine, beer, and cocktails.
And small bites of savoury and sweet were passed around throughout the night.
Despite the evening revolving around our featured timepieces, we were not allowed to pick up or try on any of them. The displays were to be admired, not interacted with.
Therefore, after the actual launch party, I found myself at the Omega boutique located in Fairmont Vancouver to do everything I wanted to, but I couldn’t then.
We tried on the most expensive pieces of the collection and appreciated the artistry in their accessory line. Together, this was such a personal way to discover the line.
