We are fans of the Korean Netflix series, Squid Games, watching both Season 1 and 2 as soon as they came out.
Therefore was excited to discover that the series has teamed up with Korean beauty brand Bring Green to make this exclusive Squid Game themed skincare and makeup line.
Available at all local T&T Supermarket locations and Lifecode Boutique in Richmond’s Yohan Mall.
We received the full collection and reviewed the skincare collection below. We actually made a Squid Game themed night of it, eating squid and rewatching season 2 for anything we missed.
The “Are You Ready” Zinc Teca Blemish Serum comes with a squeeze drip drop applicator. It is a fairly viscous liquid with no colour or scent. Slightly sticky it easily globed up on the area you are targeting. I liked that it doesn’t dry out like other acne treatments.
We opened this box first and was excited to see a set of gongii, a mini game we recognized from the television series. Red, yellow, blue, green, and purple sand filled rounds painted with either triangles, circles, or squares; exactly like in the show. This had us believing or hoping we would get sample of the other childhood mini games in the other boxes as well. Sadly this was not the case.
The Tea Tree Cica Pore Clay Pack Strong showed ddakji on its packaging so we expected two folded paper squares to play with, however it was just mask in a plastic container.
The paste was a thick and chunky paste, in a less than appetizing colour and texture. Easy to slather on your face, but hard to wash off. It required some scouring and scraping to remove all the harden tea leaves chunks. I would recommend washing it off with everything else in the shower, for an easier time.
We really liked the Gold Collagen Eye Patches, created to represent the piggy bank full of money in the show. A set of patches was shaped in yin and yang. The jar included a scoop to help pick up a sheet from the top of rach stack.
A little slimey, I recommend wiping some of the access serum off in order for the patches to stick on to and stay on your face.
We slept with them under our eyes and woke up with tight cheeks and decreased puffy darkness.
The Tea Tree Trouble Soothing Toner Pads were a quick and easy way to clean your face. The jar came with a set of tweezers for easy grabbing of a single pad.
Each pad thin and heavily saturated in toner. I would have liked a thicker cotton to better soak up and more easily wipe across the face. These did not feel substantial enough in hand or on face.
The Tea Tree Cica Pore Nose Strips came in a set of two. We thought it was the kind that you wet and allow to dry on your nose before ripping it off and pulling both black and white heads painfully in the process. We would be wrong.
Both sopping wet like a face mask and hard to keep put as a result. The first pack meant to unclog the pores, the second created to enhance their look. The end result was the natural excreting of debris from our nose pores first, and smaller and less visible pores second.
The face masks came in a box of 10. Five in a plain white Tea Tree and five printed to look like Young Hee, the iconic robot doll known for administering the Red Light Green Light game in the TV series.
Each mask was extra soupy in the packet, with enough juice to cause drips when trying to remove it from the sachel. I would recommed squeezing out any excess to help in keeping it on your face. Otherwise it does slide off and can sting if any gets in your eyes.
The ones with Young Hee are a fun novelty and I would buy it just to play dress up with her image. The mask even includes her pigtails.
The make up collection from WakeMake included a box set that invited you to “get ready with Young Hee in the game room”. The packaging includes pop ups on her and masked henchmen set to the backdrop of pink tiles and green and blue staircases.
The set covered every part of the face help to achieve Young Hee’s youthful, fresh face look. It featured a 16 coloured brown, beige, and neutral eye pallet with shimmers and matte cremes. There was a blurring pot for lips and cheeks. A Dewy Gel Maxi Gloss in “Pink Scar”, a Watery Tok lip tint in “Bloody Pop”, and their Any Proof Pen Eyeliner.
I was most excited for the hair accessories. The purple “squid” grid hair clip and double ball hair ties just like the ones Young Hee styles her hair with. Both of which are not available anywhere else. This will be great as part of a potential Halloween costume.
Bring Green stylized their Bamboo Hyalu Lip Essence after Squid Games. Two squeeze tubes of clear gloss either in geometric shapes to represent the guards in pink, or the number 456 in green to represent the players.
My favourite was the Dalgona Lip Balm. A mini pot created to mimick the Dalgona game in season 1 of the show. The balm had the look and flavour of the honey comb candy, and was even embossed with the umbrella logo. It was so cute and served well as a keepsake.
In short, this is a fun collection and one that any fan of the show or of quality novelty makeup can enjoy.
